The Avenir Announces Hyatt as Hospitality Brand for Proposed Mixed-Use Casino Complex on Manhattan’s Far West Side

The mixed-use casino complex will feature a Destination by Hyatt hotel, perfectly situated to drive increased convention business and foot traffic to the Javits Center.

Nearly 5,000 union hospitality and gaming workers expected to be employed by The Avenir.

NEW YORK, NY (June 17, 2025) – Silverstein Properties, Rush Street Gaming, and Greenwood Gaming and Entertainment today announced Hyatt’s Destination by Hyatt as the hospitality brand for The Avenir, a mixed-use entertainment complex proposed for Manhattan’s Far West Side.

The Avenir’s luxury hotel will include 1,000 rooms and suites which will be managed by and branded as The Avenir – under The Destination by Hyatt brand – but will offer guests the immersive individuality of the Destination by Hyatt brand, coupled with the award-winning World of Hyatt loyalty program, enabling members to earn and redeem points for hotel stays, dining and spa services, wellbeing focused experiences and more. With its proximity to the Javits Center, The Avenir will significantly enhance the convention industry and create economic synergy between gaming, business tourism, and hospitality.

We are very pleased to be working with Hyatt on this exciting development and tap into World of Hyatt’s 56 million members to help drive new business to Manhattan’s Far West Side,” said Tal Kerret, President of Silverstein Properties.New York City is competing globally for exhibitions, conventions and meetings. We’ve assembled an extraordinary team of food and beverage partners, and now a leading hotel brand that will help support and add to New York’s vital tourism and convention industries.”

Luxury suites will feature high-quality finishes and floor-to-ceiling glass windows that frame sweeping views of the New York City skyline. The project will also boast a vibrant culinary scene, including full-service restaurants and a food hall showcasing local eateries.

The Destination by Hyatt brand is a diverse collection of independent hotels and resorts that are individual at heart yet connected by a commitment to embody the true spirit of each location –whether urban hubs or sprawling resort retreats.

The Avenir hotel will brilliantly reflect the essence of the Destination by Hyatt brand by honoring and celebrating the unique spirit and magic of the most vibrant city in the world, said Dan Hansen, head of Americas Development, Hyatt. “This mixed-use project, which will include a casino, luxury hotel and more, would represent a significant milestone in our strategic expansion in key travel destinations, reinforcing our commitment to offering authentic, immersive experiences in the places that resonate most with our guests and members.”

Silverstein Properties, Rush Street Gaming, and Greenwood Gaming and Entertainment have proven track records of working closely with organized labor. The Avenir will ensure that the work of operating the hotel and casino will be performed by union workers. The development is expected to provide 4,000 union construction jobs and nearly 5,000 permanent jobs with industry-leading benefits and comprehensive workforce training and development initiatives.

We know from experience that casinos create thousands of permanent, high-quality jobs,” said Rich Maroko, President of the Hotel and Gaming Trades Council (HTC).The Avenir is an extremely impressive proposal that would bring 5,000 casino and hospitality jobs to the Far West Side of Manhattan and would boost the city and state’s economy. We’re thrilled to see this project enter the bidding process.”

The Avenir plans to tap into World of Hyatt’s 56 million+ members to help drive new business to the West Side neighborhood. Hyatt’s global sales force, convention alliances, and loyalty integration will undoubtedly help drive new business to the Javits Center. Hyatt has a proven track record of synergy with nearby conference centers with properties like the Hyatt Regency Denver, which is adjacent to the Colorado Convention Center, and Hyatt Regency McCormick Place, which is located near Chicago’s McCormick Place Convention Center.

Our extensive research shows that large-scale exhibition and convention centers benefit from prominent nearby destination casino-hotel developments,” said Mark Dvorchak, Managing Partner of ProForma Advisors, a firm that has studied the economic impacts of numerous large scale mixed-use entertainment projects. “It’s an additional benefit when a project, like The Avenir, is delivering much needed proximate hotel rooms that are completely privately funded.”

The Avenir recently announced a partnership with Union Square Hospitality HQ as a cornerstone workforce training and development partner in the hospitality and culinary areas. The complex will include a total of five restaurants featuring concepts by renowned hospitality groups – Union Square Hospitality Group (USHG) founded by Danny Meyer and STARR Restaurants founded by restaurateur Stephen Starr – as well as local sommelier Yannick Benjamin, celebrated chefs Nancy Silverton and Pim Techamuanvivit, and others. The Avenir’s sixth level will contain a curated food hall with venues from local chefs and restaurateurs and is anticipated to include seating for approximately 700 guests with offerings from local establishments including Don Antonio, Empanada Mama, Sarge’s Delicatessen and Diner, and So & So’s.

The Avenir plans to implement workforce development programs in New York City inspired by Hyatt’s workforce initiatives. Hyatt properties have previously worked with NYC Employment & Training Coalition, The Doe Fund, and the CUNY Hospitality Hub.

The Hotel Trades Council is the union for hotel and gaming workers in New York and Northern New Jersey and represents nearly 40,000 non-managerial hospitality and gaming employees working in all departments. More than 300 hotels and other related businesses employ their members and are under contract to the union. This accounts for approximately 75 percent of the hotel industry within the five boroughs of New York City. Through operating Rivers Casino and Resort Schenectady, Rush Street Gaming has developed a strong working relationship with the Hotel Trades Council.

If awarded an operating license, The Avenir’s new, mixed-use casino development with a first-rate gaming facility and high-quality design, well-served by local and regional transit hubs, will revitalize the vacant and under-utilized project site. The Avenir would generate substantial fiscal benefits for New York City and New York State, fostering economic growth with new jobs during construction and operation, and attracting new visitors, bolstering financial support for local businesses, and improving neighborhood safety.

The Avenir and Hyatt have entered into a letter-of-intent for The Avenir to operate under the Destination by Hyatt brand, subject to entering into a customary definitive agreement.
